About Pigment Project

Artisans and Owners // Jessica Smith and Jillian Whelan

About Jessica // Jessica was raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota and moved to Montana for college. She is a graphic designer and enjoys exploring Montana, drinking margaritas, macro photography (plants and insects mostly), and action movies.

About Jillian // Jillian was born and raised in Central California. After lapping the world a couple of times, she spent 5 years in Montana before making her way back to the coast. She now lives alongside her husband and dog, Grace. She currently works in the creative department for two wineries in Paso Robles.

About this project // Pigment Project began as a humble hobby in 2012, starting with a vintage handmade loom designed and built by her Jessica's late father. Initially, the loom was passed between the two to make earrings for friends and family. Slowly, the word began to get out and sales and stock requests began to pick up. They both have backgrounds in graphic design, and find inspiration in obscure colors, patterns, and the wild Montana landscape.

J+J create their handmade jewelry in their spare time, sometimes bringing their looms on backpacking and camping trips. They find the looming process to be relaxing and artistically nurturing. Their earrings are reflective of their moods and whims, and the styles are ever evolving.

Custom and Wholesale // J+J are always happy to do custom work or discuss wholesale orders. Please send a message using the contact page, or send an email to [email protected] for more information.
